Small cards, on their own schedule
A card lands every few days, drawn from your researched map: something to react to, think about, try or recall. Skipping one is a real answer and steers what comes next. Answer thin and a smaller extra check follows a couple of days later, plus an honest check when your stretch is up and one more a month after that.
